Recovery Programs

Millions of Americans suffer from an addiction to alcohol that takes more than just a will or a desire to quit. Most addicts never get the help that they need for addiction but those who do find that recovery programs are sometimes their best bet for long-term sobriety. Because addiction can cause immeasurable pain to the addict as well as to those who love them, recovery programs offer support for both those addicted and for the family as well. Breaking the cycle of addiction is a difficult process that takes time, effort and hope but there is help.

Various recovery programs are provided to assist those who suffer from alcohol addiction. There are:

  • family recovery programs
  • twelve-step recovery programs
  • non-twelve step recovery programs
  • support groups

Each of these methods of recovery will provide fundamental benefits that can assist in healing. Family recovery programs are ideal for the loved ones and family members who are victims in alcohol addiction. They focus on providing child counseling and family counseling for those members who have been affected in negative ways by alcohol addiction. Often times, the addict does not even realize how badly their addiction has affected their loved ones until they enter treatment and are told the horror stories firsthand.

Twelve-step recovery programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous use a series of steps that are clearly outlined to guide the addict from the bottoms of addiction on through to the tops of recovery. These programs even provide provisions to ensure that recovering addicts do their part to help their peers who are also suffering from alcohol addiction. Twelve-step programs of recovery are very common in addiction treatment and have been utilized to provide effective support for alcohol addiction since 1935.

Non-twelve step recovery programs realize that many recovery programs use ineffective measures to treat patients. For many, a step based program of recovery is not effective and must be avoided. These people benefit from the non-twelve step recovery model that uses individual circumstances to develop a unique plan of action that is based on the unique needs of the addict. There are many quality programs available that offer step based and non step based addiction treatment options.

Support groups including Alcoholics Anonymous as well as Al-Anon and many other groups can provide hope and peer support during difficult times. These groups can even be found online offering ease of access to those who are addicted to alcohol and due to legal, financial or personal issues cannot get away to attend a group in person. Online support groups have evolved to help thousands of people get immediate access to group support, have their questions answered and stay on the path of recovery.
